Still Good

(Still My Soul Will Praise Him)

Worship Devotional from 8/28/22

Psalm 43:

“Vindicate me, God, and defend my cause against an ungodly nation; rescue me from the deceitful and unjust man. For You are the God of my refuge. Why have You rejected me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy’s oppression?

Send Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain, to Your dwelling place. Then I will come to the altar of God, to God, my greatest joy. I will praise You with the lyre, God, my God.

Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God.”

Psalm 46:1:

“God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.”

Are you weak and burdened in this life? Do your thoughts weigh heavily on your mind? Is your soul downcast and your heart troubled? There is a refuge for the broken-hearted and weary, safe and secure, immovable. In this life we will face much trouble and hardship. There will be pain and grief, tribulation and suffering. Our faith will be tested. It is in such times, however, that God proves His own faithfulness to His promises. For when we are weak, He is strong. When we are downcast, He lifts up our eyes to behold His glory and power, and He gives us strength to endure. When we are broken, He is our Healer. When we are in need, He is our Sustainer and Provider. When we are overwhelmed with the burdens of this life, He is our rest and our help. When the waves of sorrow wash over our weary souls, He is our great hope that will never fail or fade. This is why we can still rejoice even in the hardest of times. This is why we still have hope even when everything seems to be crashing down around us. This is why we do not fear death, why we stand when the rest have fallen away, and why we know we have victory in the end. God is our refuge, and He cannot be defeated.

If you are struggling right now, lift your head and hope in Jesus! There is an end to your suffering. Though it may seem to be far off, the reward we have in Christ will make all of our pain as less than a blip on the radar. Keep holding on to faith, and keep crying out to the One who loves you and who is able to bring you through. He knows what He’s doing even though we may not understand. Through it all, we know that God is still in control, and that He is always good. Even in the hardest times, we can still declare with great resolve and faith that it is well with our souls because of the hope we have in Christ.

Romans 8:18:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18:

“Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Ecclesiastes 7:3:

“Grief is better than laughter, for when a face is sad, a heart may be glad.”

2 Corinthians 7:10:

“For godly grief produces a repentance not to be regretted and leading to salvation, but worldly grief produces death.”

John 16:33:

“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
