Victory

(The Battle Is The Lord’s)

Worship Devotional from 9/18/22

Proverbs 21:31:

“A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory comes from the Lord.”

We have come to know that our God is the Almighty Lord of Hosts, who commands the armies of heaven, the only true and living God, the eternal and holy Creator and Judge of all things. As Psalm 46:8-11 tells us:

“Come, see the works of the Lord, who brings devastation on the earth. He makes wars cease throughout the earth. He shatters bows and cuts spears to pieces; He burns up the chariots. ‘Stop your fighting — and know that I am God, exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth.’ Yahweh of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah”

God is mighty in battle; there is none who can stand against Him. He alone is God, and He holds all authority over all forces and power, whether earthly or heavenly, physical or spiritual, and whether good or evil. Those who serve Him in faith are exhorted to press on in the spiritual fight for the faith in 1 Timothy 6:11-12:

“But you, man of God, run from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the faith; take hold of eternal life that you were called to and have made a good confession about in the presence of many witnesses.”

Paul urges Timothy to endure in the good fight until the Day of Jesus’ second coming, reminding him and all of us in verses 15-16 just how great and capable our God truly is:

“God will bring this about in His own time. He is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, the only One who has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; no one has seen or can see Him, to Him be honor and eternal might. Amen.”

So, we have seen that it is the Sovereign Lord of Hosts who is on our side, who gives us strength to endure in the fight for the faith, and who has already secured victory for us through Jesus Christ our Savior! When faced with trials of every kind, struggles and burdens, pains and sorrows of this life, we can still rejoice always, in any and every circumstance, deep within our souls. No matter how bleak the circumstance, or how dark the night, or how desperate we feel inside, victory is assured for the believer in Jesus, for the battle belongs to God, and the victory has already been won by the finished work of Christ for our salvation. After this world has faded away and the evils of this present time are over and done, we will still be standing there in the presence of our great and sovereign King, filled with joy and life by His Spirit, worshipping Him for all eternity in perfect peace and harmony. This is our hope and it is sure. There is a fight to be fought for now, and the war will be bloody and violent, but we already know who wins in the end. Therefore, brothers and sisters in Christ, stand in hope and faith!

Romans 8:31-39:

“What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He did not even spare His own Son but offered Him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything? Who can bring an accusation against God’s elect? God is the One who justifies. Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the One who died, but even more, has been raised; He also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us. Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or anguish or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘Because of You we are being put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers, height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!”

1 Corinthians 15:54-57:

“When this corruptible is clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal is clothed with immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory. Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?’ Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”

John 16:33:

“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

1 John 5:3-5:

“For this is what love for God is: to keep His commands. Now His commands are not a burden, because whatever has been born of God conquers the world. This is the victory that has conquered the world: our faith. And who is the one who conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”
